Home & School Association

This page was updated on August 19, 2010.

St. Joseph School Home and School Association is the very visible and vibrant parents association of the school. It was organized with a three-fold purpose:

1. to promote communication, good will, and cooperation among parents, faculty, administration, school board, and the parish of St. Joseph School, and

2. to provide leadership and coordination of activities for the purpose of service, special functions, educational programs, and/or fund-raising, and

3. to foster the political action of parents as advocates regarding national, state, and local legislation that affects Catholic schools as well as the lives of students and parents.

All parents and faculty of St. Joseph School are members of the Home and School Association.

The 2010-2011 officers of the Home and School are:
Vincent D'Antoni - president
John Ryals - vice president
Crystal Smith - treasurer
Shelly Ernst - recording secretary
Theresa Tumulty - corresponding secretary
John Ryals - historian
George Waddell - sergeant-at-arms.

Notes from George

Dear SJS Parents,

What a great year we’ve had so far! The weather for our Spring Fair did not cooperate like we had hoped, but it was still lots of fun for everyone. As soon as all the numbers are tallied, we will post the results. I would like to personally thank everyone who participated and helped out in their own way to make this event as successful as it could be under the adverse circumstances. Without your efforts, we could not produce such a large event.

Our last big effort of the year is the Strawberry Festival parking on Saturday, April 10th, and Sunday, April 11th. This is an easy fundraiser for the school, and it’s lots of fun! This event does require lots of people to keep the flow of cars moving, so we cannot have too much help. If you are available to come for a few hours and have small children, please make arrangements for them to stay with family or friends while you work. The cars are not moving fast, but it could be dangerous for a little one who gets bored and starts wandering around.

We will have two floats in the Strawberry Festival parade. One will have the SJS cheerleaders and the Crusaders of the Month on board, and the other will have the Home and School Officers and their families on board. We will be showing our Crusader Spirit to everyone and representing the school.

And finally, I would like to say how wonderful these last two years as Home and School president have been for me. It has been very fulfilling to be so involved with the school. Planning and producing events that the children love has been challenging, but the rewards are so worth it! When I walk around the campus and everyone smiles and waves and is so friendly, it truly shows me the value of having my children here at St. Joseph School. It has been a blessing to me. If you have a little extra time, and are interested in holding a position on the Home and School Board, or know of someone else who might be interested, please send in a nomination to the school office. Our ballots will go out two weeks prior to the April 22nd meeting, and the new officers will be announced then.

Thanks, and see you around the campus,

- George Waddell, President SJS H&S
